History

The College of Medical Science and Technology at Chung Shan Medical University (CMS&T-CSMU) was established in 2001 following the elevation of Chung Shan Medical and Dental College to University status. The college was conceived with the objective of modernizing allied health and biomedical programs, conducting in a new era of professional education. Our primary goal is to foster students' creativity and research ability to meet the demands of modern medicine. Presently, the college is home to seven academic departments, namely the Departments of Medical Laboratory and Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Optometry, Medical Imaging and Radiological Sciences, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. In addition to this diverse array of undergraduate majors, the college also offers a range of graduate degrees and interdisciplinary programs.

As the largest college within CSMU, CMS&T stands as a preeminent institution providing a high standard of education across various healthcare and biomedical disciplines. The faculty, a majority of whom hold doctoral degrees in various professional specializations, deliver exemplary curricula and research prospects to our students. The college boasts a multitude of alumni who have gone on to serve in healthcare professions, the biotechnology industry, and research institutions both in Taiwan and around the globe. The college has become one of the major professional educational center in Taiwan.

The list of previous Deans of CMS&T is as following:

Prof. Shuan-Yow Li was nominated as the first Dean of the CMS&T from 2001 and 2005.

Prof. Kan-Jen Tsai was the second and third Dean of the CMS&T from 2005 to 2011.

Prof. Tsu-Shing Wang was the fourth and fifth Dean of the CMS&T from 2011 to 2017.

Prof. Ming-Wei Lee is the sixth and seventh Dean of the College from 2017 to 2023.

Prof. Feng-Yih Yu is the eighth (current) Dean of the College from August of 2023.

This strategic expansion reflects CMS&T's commitment to remaining at the forefront of healthcare education and preparing professionals to meet evolving challenges on a global scale. CMS&T will gradually strengthen its post-graduate educations to meet the worldwide trend for health and biomedical professionals.
